Fuel Efficient Fleets

We take pride in our ability to ship more per load and control costs for our customers. We have adopted a number of fuel-saving strategies for our fleets such as:

• lowering our MPHs
• outfitting tractors with APU’s to reduce fuel consumption and help lower emissions
• joining the EPA SmartWay Transport Partner Program (since 2004)
• educating drivers how to conserve fuel and properly progressive shift
• using a fuel optimization program called “Expert Fuel” to mitigate fuel costs and optimize routes
• limiting idling time to 15 minutes for all tractors with APU’s
• tracking miles per gallon and idling on a weekly basis
• implementing usage of diesel oxidation catalysts and diesel particulate filters
• increasing our customer payloads reducing overall shipments & carbon footprint
• continuously test technology aimed at improving heavy payload applications

In 2007, NFI saved 230,712 tons of CO2.
